SHAG Engine
A game engine for the browser, built by Higher Standard Games. It powers Washiki Washoi! with multiplayer netcode, the SHAGGED map editor and headless tools.

Built around a real arena shooter
The engine and Washoi are developed together. Browser rendering uses Babylon.js and WebGL, while TypeScript and Node.js support shared game logic, multiplayer services and command-line tooling. The result is a connected workflow from creating a map to running a match.

Multiplayer at the core
Server-authoritative netcode, client prediction, snapshot interpolation and deterministic movement support fast arena combat. A lobby server connects players to matches.
SHAGGED map editor
Build, compile and playtest maps inside the engine. The editor has its own scripting API, so mapping tools and workflows can grow alongside the game.
Established map formats
Load Quake 3 IBSP and Warsow/qfusion FBSP maps, PK3 archives and Quake shaders. Bring an existing idTech3 mapping workflow into a browser rendering environment.
Headless tools in Node.js
Run game simulation, servers and BSP tools without a browser window. Headless execution supports automated tests, bots and AI agents alongside the browser client.
Explore the engine
The documentation at shag.dev covers the engine, API and tooling. Start there to understand the architecture and mapping workflow, then explore Washoi to see how the pieces work together in a playable game.
